We are living through a time like none other in modern history--a time when technology has become so advanced that news from Japan is reported instantly in New York and across the entire planet. In today's "global society", events happening half way around the world can very quickly impact our lives here. We're reminded daily that conditions in one country can trigger a downward economic spiral on a global scale.
Indeed we are living in a very unique time. The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 has been documented in history books for years as the turning point from the "Industrial Age" to the "Information age". This "Information age" has brought with it a new set of realities. We have witnessed more technological advancements in the last 20 years than in all of recorded human history.
It could be argued that this unprecedented technological advancement is the very cause of the economic crisis families across the world are now feeling. With information traveling to us at the speed of light, and being driven into us by a media whose consciousness is one of sensationalism, and whose frame of reference is one of hardship and doom, is it any wonder that with each passing month we find ourselves living in a state of panic, fearing the prospect of unemployment, of not being able to pay our mortgage, of the cost of healthcare, the cost of oil, and on and on?
Who do we turn to now? Who can we call on to help our nation, to help ourselves, to help you and to help me? We believe it's time to look inside, to look deep inside ourselves; it's time for a call to conscience.
Yes, we are living through a very challenging time. However, it is within precisely these challenges facing us today that true opportunity lies. Through a "call to conscience", we can unlock the creative power of our minds and begin to activate the limitless human faculty of imagination. It is through this "call to conscience" that we can begin to truly live, to live not from the perspective of others, and the outside world, but from within. Because it is only from within that we find our voice. It is truly from within that we find meaning. And, it is only from within that we will find freedom.
